04Health & safety
Safety comes before schedule.
It is company policy that every employee is provided with a healthy and safe place to work. Every reasonable effort and positive action is taken, at all times and by everyone, to keep it that way.
01Policy objectives
Six commitments.
- 01
Put the safety of employees and the public ahead of the company's commercial interests.
- 02
Define clear areas of responsibility.
- 03
Inform and train every employee to work productively and safely, through induction, job instruction, toolbox talks and supervision.
- 04
Provide adequate facilities, equipment and safety gear, and make sure they are used correctly.
- 05
Provide safe access and lighting wherever required.
- 06
Carry out regular safety inspections and audits.
02Safety awareness signs
Displayed on every site.
Safety signs are prominently displayed around the workplace, including:
- First aid station
- Emergency contact
- Hard hat and safety boot area
- Hazardous area: keep out
- Smoking prohibited
- Eye and hearing protection
- Hazardous material
- Danger signs
- No pedestrian thoroughfare
- No naked flames
03On every project
Procedures.
01Induction
Every new or transferred employee attends a safety induction in their first week on the project, chaired by the Project Manager or Safety Officer with supervisors and foremen. It covers the project scope, the project organisation, our Occupational Safety & Health Policy and each person's responsibilities.
02Personal protective equipment
Safety helmet, foot protection and gloves are worn at all times in designated areas. Face and respiratory protection, harnesses and lifelines, and hearing protection are provided whenever needed. Workers wear company coveralls with protection from the sun, and visitors follow the same rules.
03Housekeeping
Good housekeeping is a vital part of our safety programme and everyone's responsibility, from managers to workers. Clean, tidy work areas reduce the risk of fire and accidents.
04Medical & first aid
First aid kits and qualified personnel are available on site. Every injury, however minor, is reported to the foreman, and injured or seriously ill persons are transferred to hospital.
05Vehicles & mobile plant
Only licensed, authorised and trained operators drive our plant, in line with the State of Qatar's regulations. Reversing machines have audible alarms, and engines are shut down and ignition sources stopped during refuelling.
06Electrical equipment
All electrical equipment complies with Qatar's statutory regulations and client requirements, with earth-leakage protection for the safety of all personnel.
